This simple cayenne grilling sauce is an incredible addition to your barbeque essentials.
Simple Perfection
This recipe is quick and easy to make. It adds amazing flavour to your steak. It was a recipe featured on one of the shows that Bob Blumer hosted years ago. I was intrigued and tried it. It is a wonderful way to season steak when you are grilling.
Grilling Beef
It is always important to plan ahead when you are going to be grilling beef. Be sure to pull the steaks out of the fridge for 1 hour before you plan on grilling. The meat needs to come to room temperature for best results.
Prepare your grill with a good cleaning if needed. Preheat the barbeque for 10 – 15 minutes. If you are using a charcoal grill, start the charcoal, once they are white/grey it is time to start cooking.

How to Grill Meat
For steaks we cook at fairly high temperatures. Use your barbeque often to find out the best temperatures and times for your particular grill. Also make use of the upper shelf for things like shrimp, vegetables and smaller items. It is an easy way to avoid over cooking things like chicken and sausages.
We grill out steaks roughly 6- 7 minutes a side depending in the thickness of the steak. We grow our own beef, so our steaks often lean to the thick side.
How Do I Know When to Flip my Steaks?
Once you put the meat on the grill you don’t want to move it around too much. A good guide to follow is if the meat sticks to the grill, it is not ready to flip. Let the meat be your guide.
How Do I Know if it is Done?
There are a few ways to determine the doneness of your beef. The easiest method is using a quick read thermometer. Another method is by touching the meat. Simply by pressing on the steak with your finger will help you determine the doneness. Rare beef is very tender to the touch. As it cooks the meat becomes firmer. It is a great practice to learn.
Steak Doneness Temperatures
The following are temperatures for the doneness stages of beef.
- Rare 120 – 130F
- Medium Rare 130 – 140F
- Medium 140 – 150F
- Medium Well 150 – 106F
- Well 160+

Cayenne Grilling Sauce
- 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
- 3 tbsp salt
- 10 oz of hot water
- Combine all ingredients and allow to cool.
- Fill a squeeze bottle and use liberally when grilling steaks.
Using the Cayenne Grilling Sauce
Once you have a good sear on the beef you can season it with the grilling sauce. Using a squeeze bottle makes for easy application. Liberally spray the beef on each side as you grill. The great thing about this sauce is you cannot use too much so be generous.

You can use it on any grilled meats for extra flavour with a touch of heat. It is a good idea to make this fresh every time.
